Skins Purse
Overview
Skins Purse is an individual game for 2 or more players. Before play begins, every player must pay a set value as an entry fee which we call the "Buy In Amount". The sum of all moneys collected is the purse. Each hole is worth one skin. A skin is earned when a player scores the single lowest score on a hole in the group. When two or more players tie for the lowest score on a hole, no skin is awarded. Players may win more than one skin in a round. A portion of the purse is distributed to each player who earns a skin. Each skin is worth the total purse divided by the number of skins won by all players within the group.
Individual Scoring
The player with the lowest score on a hole wins one skin. If two or more individuals make the same lowest score on a hole, no skin is awarded for that hole.
Payoff
A portion of the purse is won by each player who wins a skin. The formula to calculate one skin’s value: One Skin = Purse / Total Skins Won. The more total skins won during the round, the less each skin is worth. The fewer total skins won during the round, the more each skin is worth.
Carry Over Option
Skins may carry over. This option allows the value of the tied skin to add itself to the value of the next hole. The carry over can be indefinite. Many holes might combine their value to make one hole worth several skins.
Validation Option
The validation option is an individual skin option that requires a player to validate his win before he actually earns the skin. Usually, a player validates a skin by making par or better on the hole immediately following the hole that he won. In summary, the player who scores the lowest score on a hole without being tied would “control the skin”. He would only “win” the skin after he validates on the following hole. If he fails to validate, no skin is awarded. The Eighteenth hole does not require validation to win its skin.
Three popular validation rules
1) Player in control of skin must score a net par or better on following hole
2) Player in control of skin must score a gross par or better on following hole
3) Player in control of skin must tie or beat the lowest score in the group on the following hole
