Nassau
Overview
Nassau is a game for 2 or 4 players. The game is comprised of 3 segments, the front nine, the back nine, and the overall. As far as gaming, the front nine and back nine and overall are worth separate values. (Front nine=5, back nine=5 and overall=10) Standard set up values would have the font and back nines worth equal amounts and the overall worth the sum of the front and back. There would also be an option for presses during the matches. A press may occur automatically or manually depending on the player’s preference. The scoring format is match play, where each hole will count as one or two points.
Individual Scoring
In Individual Nassau, the player with the lowest score for a hole wins that hole. If each individual makes the same score on a hole, then no points would be awarded for that hole. The individual that wins the most holes on the front nine, wins the front nine segment. The individual that wins the most holes on the back nine, wins the back nine segment. The individual that wins the most holes for the entire round, wins the overall segment.
Team Scoring
Team Nassau can be scored with four different options.
1) One Low- The lowest one score between the two partners represents the score for each hole. It is compared to the lowest score of the two competitors score per hole. Each hole carries a value of one point.
2) Aggregate- The sum of both partners score represents the score for each hole. It is compare to the sum of the two competitors score per hole. Each hole carries a value of one point.
3) Hi-Lo- On each hole, the lowest score from one team is compared to the lowest score of the competitors team (same as One Low). On the same hole, the highest score from one team is compared to the highest score of the competitor’s team. Each hole carries a value of 2 points. If your low score is lower than your competitors low score, and your high score is lower than your competitors high score; you win two points. If your low score is equal to your competitor’s low score, and your high score is lower than your competitors high score, you win one point. Etc……..
4) 2nd Ball Breaks Tie- The lowest one score between the two partners represents the score for each hole. It is compared to the lowest score of the two competitors score per hole. But, in the event that your lowest score equals your competitors lowest score, the second score from each team is compared to break the tie. If the second scores are equal, the result for the hole is a tie. Each hole carries a value of one point.
Presses
There are two ways for presses to occur.
1) Manual – A press may be initiated and accepted at any time by either individual/team. A press is an additional segment separate from the front, back, and overall segment. It has its own value (default value would equal the base value of which nine you are currently playing). The press segment begins scoring on the hole immediately following its acceptance. The press terminates at the end of the nine holes at which it began. A press may last as many as 8 holes and as little as 1 hole.
2) Automatic- A press may be set up to automatically initiate without needing acceptance after an individual/team is losing by a certain number of points (default automatic press would be set up to initiate after one team is 2 points ahead). Additionally, if the score of a press is losing by the identical certain number of points, an additional press would automatically initiate. This process repeats until the end of the nine hole segment is reached.
Note: In the scoring team game of Hi-Lo. An automatic press set up after 3 down would initiate if one team became 3 points or 4 points ahead. Any additional presses would follow this rule as well.
